BottleSmoker adalah sebuah project musik yang bersifat tulus. Tahun 2003, Angkuy yang tinggal di kost-kostan dengan orientasi hidup cenderung di kamar yang hanya ditemani oleh computer Pentium II 350Mhz mencoba mengekspresikan perasaannya melalui program Fruity Loops. Berawal dari share lagu melalui computer to computer teman-temannya, lagu-lagu yang ditulis akhirnya mendapat respon positif dan menantang Angkuy untuk terus menulis lagu dan menyebarkannya. Tahun 2004, BottleSmoker mengisi sebuah festival loop yang diadakan di IF Venue, yaitu “Friday I’m In Loops”. Sebuah festival yang menjadi trigger bagi Angkuy untuk meneruskan project musiknya. Tidak hanya itu, tahun 2005 Angkuy mengajak Nobie untuk bergabung dengan BottleSmoker mengambil posisi programer..

Sebuah konsep yang diambil adalah musik kamar. Sebuah musik yang diproduksi di kamar sendiri dan cocok didengarkan di kamar. Dengan musik yang instrumentally, BottleSmoker memiliki packs dan beats yang artificial, karena pure menggunakan sounds dari komputer. Komputer telah dianggap istri bagi Angkuy dan Nobie. Dengan inspirasi itu, tahun 2004 BottleSmoker mengeluarkan EP ”Computer Is My Wife” yang membawa BottleSmoker mengisi acara “Beatles Nite 2” di Batu Api atas hasil meng-cover version “Let It Be”-nya Beatles.

Tidak hanya Beatles yang telah menjadi influences bagi BottleSmoker. Mum, Manitoba, Telefon Tel Aviv, Flaming Lips dan Fisherspooner telah cukup banyak memengaruhi musik mereka. Selain itu, artis-artis netlabel seperti observatoryonline.com dan midnetterecord telah menjadi contoh penting dan influence dalam berkarya.

Melalui jaringan internet yang megah, BottleSmoker telah berjalan nyaman di dunia myspace. Melalui myspace ini lah sebuah CD Culture yang mengadaptasi dari Cassete Culture, BottleSmoker menyebarkan materi-materi lagu kepada pendengarnya secara gratis. Pengunjung BottleSmoker di myspace bisa mendownload gratis atau mengirimkan CD-Blank ke alamat BottleSmoker dan mereka akan me-resend CD tersebut dengan isi lagu-lagu plus slave covernya. Melalui jaringan internet ini pun, Angkuy sebagai arranger dan song writer banyak diajak untuk collaborating dengan musisi komputer lainnya. Collaborating Angkuy cukup membawa nama BottleSmoker dan musisi komputer Indonesia ke luar, musisi Filipina Mark Redito telah berhasil ber-collaborate melalui lagu ”Mini Family” kemudian lagu ”Come Back To The Light” yang berada di album instant version “Before Circus Over” telah di remixed oleh BleedingBoy (Filipina). Selain itu, Angkuy sekarang sedang sibuk untuk mencoba ber-collaborating dengan Stereo Coach.

Halangan progress bekerjasama dengan inspirecord (Malaysia) membawa jalan bagi BottleSmoker untuk tetap menjadi band yang tulus, yang akan terus menulis dan menghasilkan lagu yang akan disebarkan secara gratis. Dengan musik kamarnya itu, tidak ada label-label berbentuk fisik yang sesuai dengan visi misi BottleSmoker. Maka, mereka tetap berada di jalur musik yang penuh ketulusan, misalnya netlabel. Tidak bergabung dengan record label fisik, tidak membuat buta BottleSmoker untuk menyebarkan materi lagunya. 2 album 2 EP yang telah dihasilkannya pun disebarkan dengan CD Culture atau SASE (Send Adress Self Envelope) juga disebarkan secara radikal dan vandal di komputer-komputer warnet, maka orang-orang bisa mendapatkan lagu-lagunya, selain itu disebarkan melalui hand by hand dalam bentuk Data Disc. Adanya kepedulian orang-orang terhadap musisi-musisi tulus seperti WastedRockers membawa BottleSmoker tetap bertahan dan merasa nyaman dengan idealisme tersebut. Akhirnya BottleSmoker masuk dalam WastedRockers Vol. 1 Compilation.

Nada-nada yang di buat dalam kompilasi ini umumnya menggunakan “toys machines” seperti game boy, Nintendo, Atari , dan mainan-mainan klasik lainnya yang mengingatkan kita pada masa dimana super Mario dan Donkey Kong berjaya melawan musuh-musuhnya. Ada juga beberapa software yang di gunakan atau beberapa efek game klasik untuk menciptakan nada atau visual game itu sendiri.

Kompilasi ini di buat untuk memperkenalkan kepada orang luas tentang games music (8bit music/chip tune music). Di buat dengan penuh suka dan gembira untuk memuaskan hati bagi pribadi maupun orang lain,dengan memperkenalkan juga beberapa artist 8bit music lokal yang mulai bermunculan dan di lihat dari masih sedikitnya orang yang tertarik memainkan musik ini dan audience yang belum cukup banyak tau akan hal ini maka album kompilasi ini di buat. Album kompilasi ini di buat secara power full dan karakter dari setiap band mempengaruhi isi musik itu sendiri agar terlihat lebih catchy dan funny .

Album kompilasi ini diikuti oleh tiga belas 8-bit artis yang tersebar dari seluruh Indonesia, plus penampilan spesial dari Boy Vs Bacteria yang berasal dari Swedia. Kami bagikan gratis, untuk memperluas jangkauan orang untuk memperoleh isi rekaman ini.

8-bit can refer to a style of electronic music inspired by the sound of old computer consoles from the 8 bit era of video games. This music will often reflect sounds from technology that is seen as primitive or “outdated” such as the Game Boy and home made synthesisers.

MOS 6581 and 8580 Commodore 64 SID chipsA chiptune, or chip music, is music written in sound formats where all the sounds are synthesized in realtime by a computer or video game console sound chip, instead of using sample-based synthesis. The “golden age” of chiptunes was the mid 1980s to early 1990s, when such sound chips were the most common method for creating music on computers. In their desire to create a more complex arrangement that the restrictions posed by the medium apparently allowed, composers developed creative approaches when developing their own electronic sounds. This is due to the early computer sound chips having only simple tone and noise generators imposing limitations on the complexity of the sound. The resultant chiptunes sometimes seem harsh or squeaky to the unaccustomed listener. Chiptunes are closely related to video game music. The term has also been recently applied to more recent compositions that attempt to recreate the chiptune sound, albeit with more complex technology.

Game Boy music is a type of chiptune produced using a game system of the Game Boy line. To produce music of the genre, one needs a Game Boy and a cartridge containing the appropriate software. There are several pieces of software available, but most Game Boy musicians use Nanoloop or Little Sound DJ.
